Venus Flytrap-Dionaea muscipula 'Wacky Trap'
Dionaea muscipula ‘Wacky Traps’ lives up to its name with its distinctive, irregular traps. The tissue in these traps never fully develops, resulting in a jagged appearance with almost nonexistent teeth, making them less effective for catching prey. To compensate, supplemental foliar feeding with Maxsea is beneficial. This unusual cultivar was created by Cresco Nursery in the Netherlands and was first identified by Mike Ross among a collection of mutant plants. It is also known as "Bart Simpson," a name given by Ed Read due to the plant's resemblance to the spiky hair of the animated character.
Chances are you’ve heard of this botanical wonder even if you are new to carnivorous plants. Native to the Carolinas, the Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) is easy to grow outdoors or in a sunny windowsill in most of the USA.
The Venus flytrap grows alongside other carnivores in boggy, open savannahs. For many years, misinformation spread that stated flytraps were hard to grow or required very stringent horticultural requirements. Fortunately, this couldn’t be farther from the truth! The Venus flytrap is a hardy plant, capable of being grown outdoors in nearly every state in the USA (some winter accommodation may be required for harsh northern winters and for desert summers). Our plants grow outside in the burning Texas sun year round and have even taken cold fronts down to 15 degrees Fahrenheit in the winter with no ill effects. See our Venus flytrap growing guide for more information.
Most of our products come with multiple shipping options. For those that are unpotted, you can add Pots and Soil or Hanging Baskets a la carte.
